Minister for Finance Welcomes Granting of Planning Permission in respect of The National Sports Campus at Abbotstown
The Minister for Finance, Mr. Brian Lenihan, T.D., today (27 July, 2009) welcomed the decision from Fingal County Council to grant planning permission for the development of a National Sports Campus at Abbotstown.
The Minister stated:
“I am delighted to see that planning permission has been granted in respect of the National Sports Campus at Abbotstown. This decision is potentially very good news for Irish sport in general and for employment in the Dublin 15 area in particular.
The development of the National Sports Campus at Abbotstown will provide our top athletes with sports facilities which are on a par with the best in the world. Members of the local community will also have access to the National Athletics, Gymnastic and Indoor Training Centres. In addition, dedicated facilities will be available for local teams and individuals including floodlit synthetic pitches, a major multi-sport playing area and three pitches for outdoor field sports”.
An onsite Parkland area which can be enjoyed by everyone will also be developed. This will provide both casual and passive recreational facilities, including children’s play areas, walking, jogging and cycling trails as well as picnic, barbeque and coffee shop facilities.
The Minister praised the work of the National Sports Campus Development Authority in advancing the proposals.
