The Minister for Finance, Mr. Brian Lenihan, T.D., has welcomed the announcement by his colleague, the Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Mary Hanafin T.D. regarding the introduction of a new fast-tracking of claims for Jobseekers payments which is being introduced in approximately one third of Social Welfare Local Offices around the country.

Minister welcomes announcement of €250 million scheme to protect jobs
The Minister for Finance, Mr. Brian Lenihan, T.D., today (6 August, 2009) welcomed the announcement by the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Ms. Mary Coughlan, T.D., of a €250 million scheme to protect up to 27,400 vulnerable jobs in the productive sector of the economy.
The scheme will provide a subsidy of €9,100 per employee over fifteen months to qualifying exporting enterprises in the manufacturing and/or internationally traded services sectors. Qualifying enterprises must be judged vulnerable in the current economic climate but viable in the medium to long term.

Free Pre-School Year in Early Childhood Care and Education scheme (ECCE) in 2010
The Minister for Finance, Mr. Brian Lenihan, T.D. today (5 August, 2009) welcomed the release of figures from the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs (OMCYA) which show that approximately 4,000 pre-school services have applied to enter the Pre-School Year in Early Childhood Care and Education scheme with a capacity to provide some 93,000 pre-school year places, well in excess of the places required.

HSE Pharmacy Update: Resumption of normal community pharmacy services

An announcement by the HSE on 12th August has been welcomed by the Minister for Finance, Mr. Brian Lenihan T.D. just as it is putting in place arrangements to ensure that the 470 pharmacies which had terminated their Community Pharmacy Contractor Agreement with the HSE can begin dispensing medicines under the State Drug Schemes as quickly as possible.

New Hospice for Dublin 15

Construction has started on the site of the D15 Hospice. Minister Brian Lenihan turned the first sod on Friday 24th July 2009.
The Minister congratulated all involved in bringing this worthwhile project to this stage, particularly the people of Dublin 15 who raised a staggering €4 million through local fundraising.
